LEADER IN ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
The two main themes of Sastri College is academic excellence and learner discipline, who in-turn will maintain the ethos of contributing to Society. In order to achieve this, the pass rate in all areas has been elevated to 50%. This is to ensure that learners achieve a Bachelors pass in grade 12, which will guarantee them a seat in University. In an effort to ensure academic success and all-round development of its learners, the School engages in numerous co-curricular activities like internal speech competitions, debates, Olympiads, spellathons and entrepreneurship programmes.
There are numerous clubs that support the pursuit of academic excellence like the Chess Club, Writing Club, Maths Club and Environmental Club.
In order to meet the needs of the country, Sastri College has decided to introduce an additional subject viz; Physical science, from 2017 onwards. This change will ensure that our learners are developed academically to meet the challenges of providing an adequate workforce both Nationally and Internationally. Sastri College has now become an Institution that will focus primarily on the following fields, Engineering, Medicine and Accounting.
MEDIA CENTRE AND LAN
The media centre is spacious and air-conditioned. Learners have a wide range of fiction and no-fiction books. We are currently increasing the number of fictional books to cater for a wider range of learners. Our learners can obtain unlimited information from the internet-linked computers which are available for research purposes during the breaks and after school. The Centre is flourishing because it keeps abreast with the current developments.
EPOCH AND OPTIMA TRUST AWARD
We are recipients of the Epoch and Optima trust award for Mathematics. This trust makes provision for smaller classes during lesson time and additional revision classes after school. The trust allows the School to employ more Mathematics Educators and the learners benefit because they have smaller classes and attention is almost individual.
ANNUAL SCIENCE FAIR
Sastri College also hosts its very own Science Fair, annually. Grouped learners present topics of interest ranging from Heart dissections, 3-D Printing, Solar system, the Brain and deconstruction of motor car engines. The Science Fair allows learners a unique hands-on opportunity to explore and engage in the exciting world of Science. The Fair is planned and co-ordinated by the senior Science learners.
Our classrooms are bright ventilated. We are in the process of installing air conditioners in every classroom. Each classroom is equipped with whiteboards and a data projector.
The School endeavours to create a pleasant, happy environment that is conducive to providing for well-balanced learners with a strong academic base from which to enter into Tertiary education. To ensure this, our learners receive a structured and carefully planned academic programme from a motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic team of professional Educators. The school also runs a structured testing programme as well as an extensive revision programme to ensure that all our learners performing optimally. Constant positive re-enforcement ensures that we build self-esteem and a healthy self-image.
Our hardworking Alumni members have set up a bursary fund to reward the top three learners in each of the grades.
A 100% bursary is awarded to the learner who achieves the FIRST position in his/her grade.
The learner who is place second receives an 60% bursary and the third place learner will be awarded a 45% bursary.
