SASTRI COLLEGE MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE FAIR/EXPO - 2019
THEME:   CLIMATE CHANGE
This day-long Mathematics and Science Expo was held on 7 August 2019.  This included a display of students' work from Sastri College, Grades 8 to 12, interactive stands and experiments. We also had passionate partners joining us on the day to address the learners (Tissue Culture - Durban Botanical Gardens, UKZN Marine Biology, Plastic and the Ocean, Department of Water -Water Saving Talk).
Sastri College Mathematics and Science Fair was held (from 9.00 am – 14.00 pm) to showcase and celebrate the excellent science work that the children had completed. Teachers also set up interactive activities that linked in with the classroom science topic, so that children could actively engage with the activities at the mathematics and science fair. Exhibits covered topics on mathematics games and pyramid mazes, chess, scrabble, mathematics 36, rubric cube competition, bridge building, rocket launching, music and its effects on flames, volcano eruption, consumer studies baking of cakes involving mathematical designs, dissections effects of Faraday’s laws, recycling projects. This included a range from using robotics for pet feeding, alarm beams, robotic arms, Bluetooth cars and many more
Two staff and 24 fantastic grade 7 learners from St. Anthony’s Primary School visited the Expo.    Some children were involved in programming language for Arduino prepared by Mr. P. Govender (DUT). The learners were very enthralled.
Learners were awarded gifts for their sterling efforts in the Mathematics and science Fair.
A symbolic activity booklet was prepared and distributed by Miss S. Harrilall.  Mathematics and Science Educators were very involved in the program, which resulted in a huge success.
Special thanks goes to sponsors for the Mathematics and Science Fair/Expo 2019, Mr. P. Govender (DUT) and Mrs. Govender for the gift packs provided to St. Anthony’s Primary School learners. External personnel for educating our learners on climate change. Thanks go to Mathematics and Science Team for engaging our learners and providing them the platform to express their intellect in the mathematics and science fields.
